O projeto Violência Urbana & Juventude - População de rua: Existe!? Foi desenvolvido em 2003 pelas professoras Márcia Cristina Fraga, de Matemática e por mim, com os alunos da 8a série da Escola Belmiro Medeiros da 4a CRE. A partir da escolha do tema pelos jovens, eu e Márcia formulamos uma proposta que os levasse a perceber a cidade onde moram de forma mais crítica. Assim, elas estimularam a reflexão sobre o crescimento do desemprego e da população de rua. Queriam mostrar que a escola é uma alternativa que possibilita uma melhor qualidade de vida e maiores oportunidades profissionais para adolescentes com menos oportunidade na vida.
Esse projeto surgiu dentro de uma proposta de temas do Revista Virtual da MultiRio chamada Século XXI. E foi apresentado em uma amostra de trabalhos patrocinado pela mesma revista. Nós não ganhamos nenhum prêmio com o nosso projeto, mas ganhamos a confiança e a credibilidade de nossos alunos que hoje vêem o mundo de outra forma.
